There’s always been a burning desire within me to unveil my new books in ways that defy traditional concept of presentation. Building on the foundation laid by my previous project, “Languages of Poetry,” I found inspiration to elevate my presentations to new heights. The sixth addition to my literary repertoire, titled “Insomnia Beach,” emerged at the close of 2016. Anticipation swirled as the presentation was scheduled for spring 2017 in the concert hall Apolo in Pančevo.
Eager to infuse the occasion with a unique vibrancy, I reached out to a circle of friends who are musicians. I invited them not only to absorb the essence of the selected poems, but also to craft authentic music inspired by the verses. Three of them embraced the invitation, and together, we crafted a small poetic concert for our local audience. Friends from a local TV also decided to participate and to record the event.
The evening unfolded as a dialogue, intertwining an hour discussion with the conventional book presentation. Yet, the true magic emerged when we transitioned into a collaborative performance. Seven songs came to life, a synthesis of my spoken verses with the harmonies created by my talented friends. I lent my voice to the poems, and they, in turn, responded with a fusion of keyboard melodies, beats, various sounds, bass guitar, and electric guitar.
This artistic endeavor was not confined to that concert hall—it resonated beyond, finding a home on the Soundcloud platform. Rehearsal recordings captured the essence of our journey: “Ona neće nije ona Ofelija (Massive Attack beat),” “V (Na plaži, Paralele),” “Ponoć je,” and “Nije votka rakija.” Though the language may be Serbian, the melodies speak a universal language, inviting all to partake in the experience.
This performative presentation wasn’t just about words on pages but a convergence of literary and musical realms. It stands as a testament to the creative synergy that blooms when friends and artists come together, transforming a book launch into a resonant and deeply personal experience.
The first part of the presentation – a discussion about the book
Note: the discussion is in Serbian language, here is for an informative and documentative purpose – if you are not familiar with the language
The second part of the presentation – the performance
Note: the recording is not the professional one, and it shoul have informative meaning.
