The Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja Award, presented by the Cultural Centre of Vojvodina Miloš Crnjanski for the best poetry collection by a female author written in the Serbian language, was awarded today to Jasmina Topić for her book Privremeni boravak (Temporary Stay), published by Arhipelag.
“The book Privremeni boravak demonstrates Jasmina Topić’s poetic maturity. The lyrical subject is a traveller who speaks from different, sometimes very distant places, while travel becomes a way of reading the world and oneself, a new opportunity to understand one’s relationships with other people, especially with a loved one whom the lyrical subject carries within wherever she goes. The poet brings together the elegiac and the ironic, allowing everyday life to enter the lyrical fabric, while complementing her introspective findings with an insight into the state of mind of her generation. The unusual, authentic and distinctive poetics of this poet find their readers across generations,” the award jury stated in its citation.
Jasmina Topić was born on 4 August 1977 in Pančevo. She graduated from the Uroš Predić Grammar School in Pančevo and from the Faculty of Philology at the University of Belgrade, where she studied Serbian language and literature. She has also worked as a journalist.
Since 1998, she has been editing Rukopisi, an anthology of poetry and short prose by young authors from the territory of the former Yugoslavia, published by the Pančevo Youth Centre. She is also a member of the editorial board of Kvartal, a quarterly arts magazine published by the Association of Writers and Literary Translators of Pančevo.
