My Appearances at the Milici u pohode and Vila Festivals, Vrdnik, June 2022

The Milici u pohode festival was held a year after I received the Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja Award (2021) for my poetry collection Privremeni boravak (Temporary Stay). The festival was organized by the Cultural Centre of Vojvodina, the institution responsible for presenting the award. Alongside me, as the most recent recipient, the festival also brought together previous award winners.

My participation included a presentation of selected poems, Sada smo na ostrvima (Now, We Are on the Islands), together with the volume’s editors, Gorica Radmilović and Dragana Todoreskov. I also presented songs from my music album, which shares its title with the award-winning poetry collection, Privremeni boravak (Temporary Stay). The two events took place one after the other: first, the presentation of the selected poems, followed by a separate musical performance. I was joined on stage by members of my band, Miona Caran Markov and Goran Zmejkovski, and together we performed five songs.

The festival took place in Vrdnik, the birthplace of the nineteenth-century poet after whom the award is named. At the same time, the Vila music festival was being held there as part of the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture project. The two festivals were organised in collaboration, which enabled me to present my work as part of both programmes, literary and musical.

Verses as Tweets, Reimagined in Photographs: A Lovely Idea That Remained Unrealised, Yet Was Documented

During an artist residency in Graz, Austria, in 2014, I met and worked alongside local artists and fellow artists from abroad. One of the collaborative ideas I explored was with Austrian photographer Andre Kratzer. The plan was for him to create photographs inspired by my verses, originally published as tweets, translating them into visual images.

After selecting the verses, I hand-lettered them using a computer programme, and Andre then created a visual interpretation of each one. As the photographs show, the idea relied on minimal means and simple, everyday objects to evoke the poetic world and convey the meaning behind the words. The photo gallery features three photographs from this project, and also my artistic portrait by the same photographer.

Although the project was never completed or publicly presented, some of the photographs have survived as a reminder of a lovely collaboration and a particularly creative period in my artistic life.
